About Me

Over the years, I have studied fine art in a variety of settings including college courses in Courtenay, Nanaimo and Victoria, BC. However, I would describe myself as a self-directed life long learner, a process that continues to shape my painting journey. In today’s world, one can’t discount our exposure to art in the digital realm and the tools it brings to explore our ideas, even when the final product is expressed using traditional materials. Combined, these experiences shape how I create my art.

The majority of my work is oil on exhibition wood cradled panels or deep gallery wrapped canvas.

When I look at my work and in some small way see something a little differently or new that expresses my intention, I feel I have achieved my goal. It might be the colour combinations; the paint application; the subject itself; the dimensions of the canvas; or a combination of these elements. Together these considerations shape how I capture everyday things such as a still life, landscape or the human figure. For me, art doesn’t need to be complicated to be appreciated.
